Carlos Gardel — the god of tango — painted in filete porteño style on the wall of a Buenos Aires building, the Argentine flag woven into the ornamental frame. This photograph is part of Argentinidad, an exhibition by Brazilian artist Rômulo Fritscher.
Captured in July 2005, the mural is both art and devotion — Gardel's face surrounded by dragons and flowers, his smile unchanged since the 1930s. On the street named after him, this is simply how things are.
